This condition is vulnerable to street children. Therefore, efforts to build self-motivation and develop skills are very important in increasing the self-confidence of out-of-school children. This research aims to determine the results of providing self-motivation and skill development in increasing the self-confidence of out-of-school children. The method used is a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques and participatory observation of out-of-school children involved in skills training programs, with an intervention method using Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) counseling. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively to identify factors that influence the self-motivation, skill development and self-confidence of out-of-school children. The research results show that strong self-motivation, such as the desire to develop oneself and achieve success in the future, as well as developing skills relevant to the interests and talents of out-of-school children, has a positive influence on their self-confidence. Skills training programs involving out-of-school children have proven effective in increasing their self-motivation and skills, thereby having an impact on increasing self-confidence in facing life's challenges.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.jce.ipmi.or.id/index.php/jce/article/view/28 A Casework Approach in Helping the Self-Development of Orphanage Children 2024-12-31T09:02:36+00:00 AKBAR PRAMANA NUGRAHA abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com BERLIANTI abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com
The casework approach is a social work intervention method that focuses on assisting individuals in overcoming their problems. This research examines the application of casework in helping the self-development of an orphanage child with the initials F. The casework process is carried out through several stages, namely: building relationships and contracts between the caseworker and the child, in-depth study/assessment of the child's problems, intervention through activities to develop personal potential, and termination/termination of contract. In the early stages, it was discovered that child F had problems lacking self-confidence due to having been a victim of bullying in the orphanage environment. Through the assessment, the child's interest in swimming was discovered. Intervention is then carried out by providing motivation and opportunities for children to explore and develop their swimming abilities. As a result, this activity succeeded in growing children's self-confidence and gave rise to the desire to become athletes and swimming coaches. This case study shows that the casework approach is effective in facilitating the self-development of children in orphanages through exploring their interests and talents. The child's active involvement and support from the caseworker is the key to the success of the mentoring process in building self-confidence and actualizing the child's potential.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.jce.ipmi.or.id/index.php/jce/article/view/29 Exploring the Differences Between Addiction Counselors and Social Workers in Dealing with Clients at Caritas PSE Rehabilitation Center 2024-12-31T09:21:15+00:00 CINDY SILVIANA BR SIHOTANG abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com ENLY MARIANA HASUGIAN abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com DEVI AUDEA abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com ARYA PRANATA SIDABUTAR abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com FAJAR UTAMA RITONGA abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com
This study aims to explore the different roles of addiction counselors and social workers in treating clients at Caritas PSE Rehabilitation Center. Addiction counselors focus on the psychological and emotional aspects of drug dependence using individual therapy, group therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). Social workers, on the other hand, address the social and environmental aspects that affect clients' well-being, using ecological theory, family interventions, advocacy, and linkages to community resources. The research method is qualitative, with observation and interview techniques. The results show that collaboration between addiction counselors and social workers, with complementary approaches, is essential to creating a comprehensive and effective rehabilitation program that supports the long-term recovery and social reintegration of clients.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.jce.ipmi.or.id/index.php/jce/article/view/30 Empowerment of Communities Affected by the Pangkalan Susu Coal Power Plant through Paralegal Training 2024-12-31T09:32:10+00:00 CINDY SILVIANA BR SIHOTANG abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com GUSTI PIRANDY abiyulailalatasabus@gmail.com
This research explores the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the Pangkalan Susu coal-fired power plant (PLTU) on the community in Tanjung Pasir Village, Pangkalan Susu District, Langkat Regency. Based on a qualitative method with a participatory action research (PAR) approach, the author collected data through focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and observations. The results showed that the presence of the coal-fired power plant had reduced the quality of life of the local community, increased unemployment, caused a decrease in the income of fishermen and farmers, and triggered various health problems due to fly ash and bottom ash (FABA). To address these conditions, the author implemented a paralegal training program to empower communities to understand and protect their rights. The training proved effective in improving the community's understanding of their legal rights and ability to use existing legal mechanisms. This program is expected to become a model intervention that strengthens the community's capacity to deal with the negative impacts of industrial activities.
2024-12-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025
